St Simons Island Fishing Report 2/15/2019
Here in the Golden Isles we are getting a spring preview with very mild to warm weather. That will change as winter is not quite done and cold weather patterns will return. The two most consistent options for back country/inshore fishing around St Simons, Jekyll and Sea Island are sheepshead and redfish. Many of the redfish are remaining in the back of creeks that hold shell. Sheepshead are in all man made structures, but many anglers in our area target lay downs or blow downs. (Submerged trees) The speckled trout fishing has been hampered in some areas by an influx of fresh water from both the Satilla and Altamaha Rivers. Targeting areas such as Turtle River has yielded more speckled trout as the salinity has remained higher in that system. We will experience higher than normal tides thru 2/22, which will make fishing challenging. As the tides back off, expect the strong redfish and sheepshead bite to continue. Whiting fishing should kick off the first of March with one of the Golden Isles favorite fish, the triple tail, soon to follow!
