St Simons Fishing Report April 26, 2018
It’s easy to go from hero to zero in this business and learning to adapt can eliminate the zeros! Lately the inshore bite has been tricky as the emergence of bait and rising water temps has the fish in free range mode and quite scattered. I explained to today’s group that we could shake the bushes for trout, reds and flounder, or we may consider looking for trophy or oversized fish. Not necessary the best scenario for table fare, but great fighting fun that could be good for the photo album (and a workout)! Target species could include large sharks, double digit blues, big jacks and the spring run of bull reds. Fortunately, big reds, black tip sharks and double digit blues did indeed cooperate! While we broke off a huge black tip that gave us quite the aerial display, the blues and reds came through! At the end of the day, Nick and Steve confessed that the big battles were even more satisfying than a cooler full of eaters. Sometimes adaptation ain’t so bad!
